Don't miss out on these experiences while in the Mamanucas
Just a short boat or chopper ride from Nadi lie the Mamanuca islands. This is the Fiji made famous by postcards and Instagram – think white-sand beaches and coral reefs; palm trees and turquoise seas.
The Mamanucas are so picture perfect in fact, that they've been featured on screen – most notably in Tom Hanks’ classic survival film Cast Away, which was filmed on the island of Monuriki, in case you’re wondering.
Whether you’re just visiting for a day trip, or you’re lucky enough to be staying for longer, the Mamanucas offer a taste of picturesque Fiji at its best.
Accommodation in the Mamanucas includes something for everyone, with options ranging from surfers’ sanctuaries, adult-only or family-friendly resorts and luxury five star retreats.
When it comes to activities, you’re also covered – from lounging on a beach to leaping out of a plane and everything in between, the Mamanucas have it all.
Serious surfers will have no doubt heard of Fiji's most iconic wave, Cloudbreak. Found at the southern end of the Mamanucas just off Tavarua and Namotu islands, this world-class left hand reef break is often voted one of the top ten waves in the world. Cloudbreak is also home to the World Surf League's annual Fiji Pro competition, attracting professional surfers and spectators from around the globe. With consistent eight to ten foot swells, Cloudbreak is best suited to experienced surfers, but there are many other waves nearby that cater to all experience levels. SUP and kitesurfing are very popular here too.
Achieve the ultimate tick for your bucket list when you leap from a dizzying 14,000ft over the Mananuca islands. You’ll enjoy a breathtaking bird's-eye view of the islands and reefs and, with an optional photo package, you’ll have a selfie to make all of your friends green with envy!
Jet Ski adventures
One of the most exciting way to explore the islands is by jet ski. There are a number of tour options but an exhilarating high-speed ride to the Cast Away movie’s uninhabited Monuriki island is highly recommended. You can spend a few hours lazing on the beach, exploring caves and snorkelling the crystal clear waters.
Relax on Cloud 9….literally
Cloud 9 is an experience like no other. A floating two-tier bar that seems to hover above the dazzling Ro Ro Reef off Malolo island, Cloud 9 is just a 15 minute boat ride from Cloudbreak. Serving wood-fired pizzas, cool cocktails and laid-back tunes, Cloud 9 is the perfect mid-ocean chill out spot. Snorkels are handy for when you're not doing somersaults off the top deck and groups can pre-arrange more water sports for their visit.
Cruising the Mamanucas
Many cruise operators offer day trips to the Mamanucas from Port Denarau marina. A perfect island escape from the mainland, you can choose between great food onboard or maybe stopping to dine on a deserted beach. Most operators also have kayaks and SUPs so you can explore the coastline and reefs at your own pace.
