Adventure in pacific harbour and beqa lagoon
Less than an hour’s drive from Fiji’s capital Suva, Pacific Harbour is well-known as Fiji’s centre for adventure, both above and below water, with activities ranging from surfing, river tubing and white water rafting to jet boating and 4WD tours.
Pacific Harbour has become the epicentre for some of Fiji’s more adventurous activities, from world-famous surf breaks on the outer reef, to the lush inland river valleys that you can navigate by 4WD buggies, inflatable rafts or high-speed jet boat.
In the surrounding green mountainous landscape, you can literally choose your own adventure, from hiking rainforest trails to rafting river rapids.
River Valley Adventures
Start your adventure with a journey into the lush rainforest of the Namosi Highlands, through towering mountains to the source of the mighty Navua River.
In the upper Navua River and its tributary, Wainikoro-i-luva, whitewater rafting tours take you on an exhilarating cruise through waters that range from peaceful glides to grade 2 and 3+ rapids through deep gorges and past cascading waterfalls.
If that’s not a big enough adrenalin rush for you, take a high-speed jet boat ride up the Navua River to Magic Waterfalls for a swim, take an inflatable raft downriver before jet-boating to a local village for lunch.
Further downstream in the calmer waters of the middle Navua, explore the river by kayak, visit waterfalls, hike through surrounding rainforest and go for a late-afternoon gentle punt downstream.
Another way to navigate the Navua River is the gentler option of river tubing. Join William Rock Danford, founder of River Tubing Fiji, and descendent of John Humphrey Danford, who settled in these highlands in the early 1800s, as he follows the footsteps of his ancestors.
Hiking, Skirmish and 4WD tours
Choose a guided or self-drive tour to explore a hinterland adventure in the Namosi Highlands. Guided tours usually start with a motorised long-boat trip upriver to a Fijian village, where you can take part in a traditional kava ceremony before going for a swim at Magic Waterfalls.
Self-drive tours on dune buggies are also available, following a guide on group or tailored tours through the rainforest for picnics and waterfall swims.
Surfing, snorkelling and kayaking
Navigate the coastal mangrove forests of Pacific Harbour by kayak, venture further afield to see the soft coral wonders of Beqa Lagoon on snorkel, or surf one of Fiji’s world-famous breaks on the outer reef.
Hire a sea kayak and navigate your way through coastal mangroves and out to the open sea along the beautiful Deuba coast all the way to Pacific Harbour. If you’re more interested in the underwater world, take a trip out to the reef to dive or snorkel Beqa Lagoon’s beautiful soft coral wonders.
Located slightly offshore on the south west of Beqa Lagoon’s barrier reef, Frigates Passage, also known as the Fiji Pipeline, provides surfers with one of the most consistent surf breaks in Fiji. It’s short boat trip from Beqa Island or Pacific Harbour.
