On the 11 March, the World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak a Pandemic.
In response to the global spread of the virus and advice from the WHO, the Fijian Government has heightened its level of preparedness in anticipation of an outbreak.
The vaccine is a huge step towards normality for Fiji and its people with hopes that our international borders will open to visitors, restoring the livelihoods for thousands of Fijians, who are dependent on the tourism sector.
We don't yet know when this will happen, as it will be dependant on the vaccine rollout and how long this takes. The tourism industry should await Government decisions related to travel and easing of border restrictions.

We might see a shift towards being vaccinated as one of the requirements for international travel. Currently though, due to border closures, travel is restricted.

The Fiji Government, led by the Ministry of Health and Medical Services, is working closely with partners to access COVID-19 vaccines and ensure that our systems are ready to safely receive and distribute them.
Fiji has been allocated a total of 100,800 COVID-19 vaccines by the global COVAX facility and anticipates receiving further batches in the early part of 2021. Over the course of 2021, the Government expects to receive enough vaccines to vaccinate 20% of the population. The government continues to look at ways of sources more vaccines.
The target is to get all individuals above the age of 18 vaccinated.
