Film Locations You Can Visit

Fiji is no stranger to the spotlight. From Hollywood classics to reality TV drama, the islands are a playground for movie lovers chasing real film locations. If you want to walk the same beaches as Cast Away or Survivor, add these famous filming locations to your Fiji bucket list.

Movies Filmed in Fiji

The Blue Lagoon (1980)

This classic romance starring a young Brook Shields was filmed in the turquoise waters and flawless beaches of Nanuya Levu, in the Yasawa Islands. When filming wrapped, the island became Turtle Island Resort - an exclusive eco-luxury escape. There are several other resorts you can stay at to explore the region, including a multi-day cruise with Blue Lagoon Cruises. Whatever you do, don’t miss the nearby Sawa-i-Lau sea caves where some scenes were filmed.

Return to the Blue Lagoon (1991)

The sequel starring Milla Jovovich was filmed in northern Fiji on Taveuni and Matagi islands. Taveuni - the “Garden Island” - is packed with rainforest trails, waterfalls, and quiet coves. Trek to a crater lake to spot the rare Tagimoucia flower, wander the stunning Lavena Coastal trail, or go scuba diving on the colorful Rainbow Reef.  It’s the perfect backdrop for tropical island adventures.

Cast Away (2000)

"Wilson!" Who can forget the anguish of Tom Hanks losing his best friend? If that line still haunts you, make your way to Monuriki in the Mamanuca Islands where this iconic survival drama was filmed. You can visit on a day trip with Cruisin Fiji from Port Denarau or catch a boat from any of the nearby resorts. Uninhabited and unbelievably picturesque, it's a castaway paradise.

Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid (2004)

Set in Borneo but filmed in Fiji, this wild thriller used the dense jungles and winding rivers near Pacific Harbour and Navua as its lush backdrop. Thankfully, there are no dangerous land snakes in Fiji – so you can relax and enjoy the view as you float downriver on a river tube, kayak past waterfalls or keep it cruisey on a slow bilibili (bamboo raft) ride like locals do.

Adrift (2018)

Based on a true story of survival at sea – “Adrift” starring Shailene Woodley and Sam Claflin was shot in Viti Levu at locations in Suva, Rakiraki, and Pacific Harbour. Get a feel for these lesser-known regions on a walking tour of Suva’s small shops, restaurants and historic sites, take a dip in the Colo-i-Suva Rainforest pools or visit a protected canyon on a whitewater rafting adventure with Rivers Fiji.

Fantasy Island (2020)

This spooky thriller was shot in Viani Bay near Taveuni, known for epic scuba diving on the Rainbow Reef. Several scenes also popped up at sets in Nadi, Lautoka, and Denarau Island but perhaps the most thrilling location is the Zip Fiji ziplines and caves near Momi Bay.

Popular Tv Shows Filmed In Fiji

Survivor

Fiji has been the island home of Survivor (US) for more than a decade with many seasons shot in the stunning Mamanuca Islands – particularly Mana Island Resort and surrounds.  The region is packed with things to do from snorkelling and picnics on sandbars to game fishing and surfing. And it’s not just the U.S. version that's fallen for Fiji.  Australian Survivor and Koh-Lanta (French Survivor) also shot a few seasons in regions like Savusavu, Kadavu and the Yasawa Islands, making Fiji the ultimate Survivor fan getaway.

Love Island USA (2019 – Current)

Love, drama, and sun-drenched villas.  Love Island (USA) has filmed many of its sizzling seasons (1,5,6) in Fiji including villas at Nanuku Resort Fiji (Pacific Harbour) and near Nadi. And Season 7? It’s still under wraps, at a secret Fiji location.  In Nadi, you can chase your own thrills - quad bike into the highlands, skydive over islands, soak in a thermal mud pool, or take a daytrip to the lovely Mamanuca Islands.  Love Island Australia has also filmed a few seasons (1,2) on the Coral Coast which is chock full of its own adventures – like Ecotrax’s electric railbike rides, glass blowing classes with Hot Glass or a thrilling jetboat ride upriver with Sigatoka River Safari.

Bachelor in Paradise Australia (Season 1-2) 2020.

Romance meets reality TV in the beautiful Coral Coast where Bachelor in Paradise Australia filmed its first two seasons - mainly at Mango Bay Resort. This stretch of coast is all lush hills, palm-lined beaches, and laid-back village vibes. Around Mango Bay, you can snorkel straight off the beach, take a boat out to nearby reefs or hike to hidden waterfalls inland.

Wrecked (Season 2 & 3) 2018

This survival comedy (a cheeky spoof of Lost) was shot in some of western Viti Levu’s most gorgeous spots – the grassy hills of Momi Bay, the dramatic Sigatoka Sand Dunes and Natadola Beach, often called the best on Viti Levu. You can enjoy the beach with a stay at the InterContinental Fiji resort, then hit world-class golf course next door.

Eco-Challenge: The World’s Toughest Race (2020)

Bear Grylls called it the world’s toughest race - but you don’t need to be an elite athlete to explore Fiji’s wild side.  Eco-Challenge was filmed across some of Viti Levu’s most beautiful landscapes. Raft white-water rapids with Rivers Fiji, chase remote waterfalls in the island’s interior with Domoika Adventures, hike across grassy hills with Talanoa Treks, or learn to sail a traditional camakau (canoe) at Leleuvia Island Resort.   And if you love running, don’t miss the annual Namosi Challenge marathon in June which takes you through the same stunning terrain.
