Lomaiviti Group

Lomaiviti Group

Off the Eastern coast of Viti Levu, the cluster of islands that make up the Lomaiviti Group are home to the historical port town of Levuka, Fiji’s first capital and now a Unesco World Heritage Site.
On the beach front of Ovalau Island, Levuka has beautiful historic buildings set amongst coconut and mango trees, showcasing the fascinating history of Fiji’s colonial era.

While some of the inner islands in the Lomaiviti Group are well-developed for tourism, others provide a glimpse of pure, untouched Fiji, and they all offer enchanting island experiences.

A selection of lodges, hotels, home-stays and resorts are scattered throughout the Lomaiviti Group, with several concentrated on Ovalau Island. No matter where you stay, you’ll be charmed by the warmth of genuine Fijian hospitality.

The pristine marine environment of the Lomaiviti Group makes diving, snorkelling and yachting popular activities, but with booming fish stocks, the islands have earned the reputation of being the ‘big fish’ capital of Fiji. Try your hand off the barrier reefs at Gau, Batiki and Nairai and you may be lucky enough to hook a whopper – Trevally are known to grow up to 50kg.

To get a taste of authentic Fiji, there are tours available through some of the local villages but you can’t go past a visit to Levuka to experience the rich and colourful history of colonial Fiji.
